A neck lift (lower rhytidectomy) surgically removes excess skin and fat from the neck and jaw, tightens the underlying platysma muscle, and repositions tissue for a cleaner, more defined neck contour. It is one of the most effective treatments for significant neck laxity, "turkey neck," and platysmal banding.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Incisions are placed behind the ears and under the chin, designed to be hidden in natural creases. Most patients return to normal activity in 2 to 3 weeks. Full results are visible at 3 to 6 months as swelling resolves.

A neck lift is often combined with a facelift for comprehensive lower face and neck rejuvenation. It is not the right treatment for neck fat without skin laxity — Kybella or liposuction is more appropriate for fat alone.
