What is a Masseter Botox?
Masseter Botox is Botox injected into the masseter — the large chewing muscle at the back of the jaw. It is used to slim a wide or square jawline, soften an overactive jaw, and relieve TMJ symptoms like clenching, grinding, and jaw tension.
Because the masseter is a big, strong muscle, it takes far more units than a wrinkle treatment — typically 20 to 50 units total across both sides. Jaw slimming is gradual: you will notice tension relief within a week or two, but visible narrowing develops over 6 to 8 weeks as the muscle shrinks with disuse. Results last about 4 to 6 months.
Most providers price masseter Botox per unit, the same rate as regular Botox, so your cost depends mostly on how many units your jaw needs. Ask how your provider prices and roughly how many units they expect before booking.
How much does a Masseter Botox cost?
Masseter Botox nationally typically runs $300 to $750 per session because the jaw muscle needs 20 to 50 units. Per-unit providers nationally charge about $10-$15 per unit, so the total comes down to how strong your masseter is and whether you are treating for slimming, TMJ relief, or both.

What to ask your provider
- How many units do you recommend for each side of my jaw, and why?
- Am I a candidate for slimming, TMJ relief, or both?
- How long until I see the jaw actually narrow — and how long will it last for me?
- What happens to chewing and my smile while the muscle relaxes?
- Do you price per unit, and what is your current rate?
- How many masseter treatments do you perform each month?
