What is a Keloid Injections?
A keloid injection delivers a corticosteroid, most commonly triamcinolone (Kenalog), directly into raised scar tissue to soften and flatten it. The steroid slows the overproduction of collagen that made the scar grow beyond the original wound, and it usually calms the itching and tenderness before the scar visibly changes. It is not a treatment for indented acne scars, which are the opposite problem and belong with subcision, microneedling and resurfacing. And one honest note for the patients most affected: the steroid can lighten the skin around the injection site, and that shows more on deeper skin tones, the same skin most prone to keloids.
