What is a Permanent Eyeliner?
Permanent eyeliner is a permanent makeup technique that implants pigment along the upper and/or lower lash line to define the eyes. Options range from a subtle lash line enhancement, where pigment is tapped between the lashes to make them look fuller, to a visible winged liner. A digital machine and fine needle deposit the pigment.
Treatment takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours with a topical numbing cream and gel. Liner looks bold and the eyes may swell for a day or two, then the color lightens as it heals. A mandatory touch-up at 6 to 8 weeks perfects the line. Results typically last 3 to 5 years, longer than brows, because the eyelid sees less sun and skincare exposure.
Because of the proximity to the eye, this requires a steady, experienced artist and strict sterile technique. Contact lens wearers remove lenses for the procedure, and the eyes are watery and sensitive during healing.
How much does a Permanent Eyeliner cost?
Permanent eyeliner nationally typically costs $400 to $800 for the initial session, depending on whether it is a subtle lash line enhancement or a fuller winged liner.

What to ask your provider
- Can I see healed eyeliner work, not just fresh photos?
- How do you keep the procedure sterile so close to my eye?
- Will you do a subtle enhancement or a visible line for me?
- Is the 6 to 8 week touch-up included?
- How do you handle watery, sensitive eyes during the session?
- What aftercare protects the delicate eyelid area?
