What is a Chin Implant?
A chin implant (chin augmentation) places a solid, biocompatible implant over the chin bone to add projection and balance to the lower face. It strengthens a weak or recessed chin, improves the profile, and can make the nose look more proportionate. The result is permanent.
Surgery takes under an hour under local anesthesia or sedation, through a small incision under the chin or inside the mouth. Expect swelling for 1 to 2 weeks, a soft-food diet early on, and most swelling resolved by a few weeks with final results over a couple of months.
For larger advancements or to correct chin height and asymmetry, a sliding genioplasty (moving your own bone) may be recommended instead. A board-certified plastic or facial plastic surgeon performs it, often alongside rhinoplasty.
