What is a Subcision?
Subcision is a minor in-office procedure that treats depressed (rolling) acne scars by releasing the fibrous bands that tether the scar down to the deeper tissue. A small needle or cannula is inserted under the scar to break those bands, allowing the skin to lift and smooth.
It takes 15 to 45 minutes under local anesthesia, with bruising for 1 to 2 weeks. Subcision is often combined with filler, microneedling, or RF microneedling for the best result, and a series may be needed.
It works best for rolling, tethered scars rather than narrow 'ice pick' scars, which respond better to TCA CROSS.
How much does a Subcision cost?
Subcision nationally typically costs $300 to $800 per session, depending on the number of scars treated and whether it is combined with filler or microneedling.
